I started my plastering career about eight years ago after deciding it was time for a new challenge. Before that, I worked in supermarket retail, but I no longer found it fulfilling. Around the same time, my sister had just bought her first home and was struggling to find a plasterer for some cosmetic work. Curious to give it a try, I took an intensive course with Dorset Trade Skills. Soon, I was plastering parts of her house and taking on small projects for friends.
At the time, I was still working full-time as a baker at Sainsbury’s, but after just three months, balancing both jobs became impossible. So, I made the leap—leaving behind a retail career I had been in since I was 16 to pursue plastering full-time.

My first year in the trade was intense, filled with hands-on learning and picking up valuable techniques from online forums, YouTube, and my college tutor. As demand for my work grew, I quickly realized I needed an extra pair of hands. Around then, my now wife was offered voluntary redundancy from Sainsbury’s due to a management restructure. Seeing an opportunity, I taught her the basics, and after practicing at my sister’s house, she discovered she had a natural talent for plastering too. That’s when we decided to launch ABCD Plastering—named after our initials. Today, we proudly serve West Dorset, South Somerset, and East Devon.

Over the past seven years, we’ve taken on a wide range of plastering projects, both large and small. More recently, we expanded our skills to include interior lime plastering, thanks to the guidance of Graham Wooldridge from Stoves and Stones. We’ve also trained in Venetian plastering and Microcement, and we’re excited to bring these techniques to new projects in the coming year.
