I was incredibly fortunate to find my way into the plastering trade—it came to me entirely by chance. After completing my Sculpture degree in London, I stumbled across an advertisement posted by the NHTG for an apprenticeship at Keith Langton’s workshop in Wakefield. It was a big move for me, relocating from Somerset with no prior background in construction, but without a doubt, it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.

Earning my NVQ in Heritage Fibrous Plastering and being trained by someone as passionate and skilled as Keith truly inspired me. It opened my eyes to the vast possibilities within the world of plastering—far beyond what I had ever imagined. After completing my apprenticeship, I returned to the Southeast, where I’ve had the privilege of working with multiple fibrous plastering companies, both large and small, gaining a diverse and well-rounded experience in the trade.
I particularly enjoy working on heritage conservation and restoration projects, as well as hand-modelling and bespoke interiors, which allow me to integrate my sculptural and artistic background. I love the hands-on, creative aspect of the job and the satisfaction of seeing a project come to life.

Along the way, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and learning from some incredible plasterers, many of whom have either mentored me or invited me to collaborate on projects. I’m deeply grateful for these opportunities, and now, working for myself as a freelance plasterer under ‘Saffron Mouldings,’ I look forward to every new challenge and exciting step ahead.
It would be fantastic if schools encouraged more young women to explore careers in the trades. Growing up, a career in construction was never suggested to me as an option, yet it has turned out to be the most fulfilling and rewarding path I could have taken. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to say that I truly love my job and take pride in every piece of work I create.
