Here come the girls

A Tribute to Female Plasterers: Inspiring Stories Inside

Mary Fibrous workshop

Throughout my career, I’ve faced numerous obstacles, but I’ve always been determined to keep up with those around me. That meant adapting, building resilience, and pushing forward no matter what. If something wasn’t right, I never told myself, “I can’t do this.” Instead, I kept trying—again and again—until I got it right.

When I first started out, finding women’s work boots was nearly impossible—they just didn’t exist. I had to wear boys’ boots and always told myself, “One day, I’ll have boots made specifically for women.” I never imagined that a decade later, that dream would become a reality—a pair of women’s work boots named after me. It’s an achievement I’m incredibly proud of.

Today, I see more women in the trades than ever before, and that’s exactly what we need. We’re showing young girls that they belong in these traditionally male-dominated industries, with more role models leading the way than ever.

For any woman considering a career in the trades, my advice is simple: challenges will come, but treat them as opportunities to learn and grow. Don’t be afraid to take that first step—just give it a go. It might just be the best decision you ever make.
